New release: Amoven: Prophesy by Nancy M. Griffis

If you are a werewolf fan, you’ll want to check out the latest release from Nancy Griffis, Amoven: Prophesy! What a gorgeous cover! I’m excited to be part of the blog hop in honor of her release.

Amoven Prophecy

Well hello there everyone! My name is Nancy M. Griffis and I’m the proud new author of Amoven: Prophecy. Cindy’s awesomely hosting my blog hop today!

Amoven: Prophecy is available now in ebook and print from all major online retailers. (Get your copy on Amazon)

I say “new” author of Amoven, but I’ve been working on the book for a longggg time. The gist of the novel didn’t change from the first draft to the last, but I had the hardest time letting go. It’s been through the hands of two different editors four times and even though they both loved it, I just couldn’t make myself pull the trigger.

I don’t normally feel so protective of my books, but this one seems to be the exception. Some books are like that. Usually, I write a book, edit it, send it to an editor, rewrite it a third time and boom! It’s good to go. Not so with Amoven. Despite the fact that the novel was essentially done a couple of years ago, it took a while for me to decide to publish it myself.

Amoven: Prophecy is about a family of wolf shapeshifters from San Digeo, CA. The McTavish Clan is small by Amoven standards with only four adult siblings–Jim, Daniel, Simon, and Sandy–and Simon and Jim are ‘mere’ humans, looked down on by many Amoven. The McTavish Clan fell out of favor generations ago and Daniel wants to restore the Clan to its rightful place at the head of the Council that rules their people.

To accomplish such an ambitious goal, Daniel is tackling the one thing that threatens all Amoven: the devastating decline in birth rates. While not as exciting as hunters on a killing spree, it’s just as deadly to their ultimate survival. Daniel’s arranged a Conclave with most of the North American clans to take place at the seat of Amoven power in the Colorado Rockies and this is where our story starts.

Having so many Alphas in one place is practically asking for a bloodbath, but Cole Bishop is just the Amoven to keep them in line. Grandson to Lauren Bishop–the woman who’s held power as head of the Amoven North American Council for almost one hundred years–Cole has a spine of steel under his manicured, indolent appearance. Publically, he can do nothing but support his grandmother and her backwards, anachronistic prejudices. Secretly, he does all he can to help Daniel McTavish in his goal to become head of the Council.

It’s not until the end of the Conclave that things get crazy. Someone tries to assassinate Daniel. Simon has visions of Amoven past despite being human. Sandy mates with a man from a powerful clan to spite her brothers. One of the Councilmembers abdicates his seat and bequeaths it to Daniel in the form of a prophecy that shows him as the key to Amoven survival or doom… and that’s all I can say without going into major spoiler territory.

I hope you love this book as much as I do! I am working on the sequel now, but don’t have a release date just yet.

Thanks so much to Cindy for having me!

“Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore…”
Edgar Allan Poe, The Raven

The day would’ve been dark and dreary enough on its own without the added task at hand. How had it come to this? She stared straight ahead as she drove to her new home to live with an aunt she’d never met. The charcoal clouds hung heavy over the road, reminding her of how they looked just last week, the day of her father’s funeral.

The straight shot from the highway gave her nothing interesting to look at. Trees were sparse. Some quiet farms popped up every now and then, but for the most part I-70 lay straight and plain. Fields still cold and barren were iced with the latest blanket of snow. Lazy windmills weren’t motivated enough to spin without the wind egging them on. After taking the exit ramp though, the trees filled out. Soon enough she made it to her aunt’s where things became more interesting. Bentley Manor was off a lesser-known, less-traveled highway, and sat up on a hill, staring menacingly down at the passers-by below as though to say, “Keep driving. Nothing to see here,” though it was the most intriguing thing she’d seen in the past forty-five minutes.

She meandered up the winding, tree-canopy covered gravel drive to Bentley Manor. Though she’d seen images of it on Google Street View, it was an experience in person. The façade was a dark brick, a rusty red, and the crow’s nest sat on the top lined with sharp, wrought-iron rails. Four majestic white columns striped the front face, but two were closer than their counterparts, making the front asymmetrical, off key. The thick woods of the state park crowded up to the property on the left, and cleared farm fields stretched for acres on the right. A large barn and some outbuildings stuck out to the side from behind the mansion.

Two thick, naked trees rose higher than the mansion itself, stripped of bark, hacked by axes, and scarred by lightning. They stood, an angry guard, at the front of the estate. One, using what few branches it had left, pointed accusingly in the direction of the driveway at would-be guests.

Leni fought back the urge to speed away with a deep breath and forced herself up the crescent-shaped drive.

The snow from last night dusted the cement stairs to the front door. There was a cold January bite to the air. She tightened her blue and green plaid pea coat snugly around her and gazed warily up at the front of the home.

She knew of her mother’s family without having gone through the trouble of meeting them. Her parents had told her about them at least. The Bentley’s were wealthy. This was just one of the properties her grandparents had given their children. She didn’t know what they did to earn such money. How was it that her mother’s family could have multiple homes including this extravagant one? For most people, one mansion in the family would be enough, but not the Bentleys.

The front double doors burst open before she’d raised a hand to knock causing Leni to jump back. A tall woman in her mid-forties with pale skin and dull, red hair braided to hang down one side stood in the doorway. This had to be her aunt. Leni could see shadows of her mother in this woman. They shared the same hair color, the same green eyes, and of course, the same skin color. Leni pulled back as apprehension seized her. She was suddenly cognizant of her black hair, grey-green eyes, and dark skin. These were things she’d shared with her father, and she’d had very little to do with anything of her mother’s once Debra had walked out on them when Leni was only ten years old.

“Lenore? I’ve been expecting you.”

EXCERPT FROM SOUL AWAKENED

Kendra commanded herself to march straight out the door. Enough of this bleeding heart stuff. If only she could take that next step toward freedom. She sighed heavily. Who was she fooling? She wasn’t going anywhere other than straight to his bed. Heck, she had bled, almost died, and ran naked into his frigid subconscious in less than twenty-four hours of knowing him.

She had no sense of self-preservation.

Bakari lay in the center of the enormous bed. The size of two kings put together. She couldn’t very well assess him from her vantage point. Climbing in bed with him uninvited caused her heart to flutter. What if Bomani walked in? How would she explain this?

Irritated with her thoughts, she stepped on the sideboard and hoisted herself on the thick plush mattress. The bed barely moved or compressed under her dainty weight. She didn’t want to wake him or least that was the plan.

Check on him and go. Yep.

Thankfully, he didn’t move as she crept closer on her hands and knees. His body contracted tighter and he shook his head against the covers. Maybe she could break the nightmare with a light touch. It seemed to lessen his pain before in his cell.

With her weight on her right hand and knees, she reached out and gently brushed his damp black hair out of his face. Surprisingly, it was soft and shiny now and all the white had faded. He must have washed it sometime before she arrived.

She moved her knees forward and sat back on her heels with her hands on her thighs. Too scared before to take in his features, she measured his face in an unrushed appreciation. His cheeks had filled out from last night. The muscles in his jaw twitched, as he clenched and unclenched his teeth in his sleep. His skin had warmed to an olive tone. Not bad for what little food he had eaten.

She traced the angle of his cheekbone to his full jaw with her fingertip. He had Asar’s facial structure. Her finger stopped at his chin. She mentally traced the line of his mouth. His lips were perfect in size and shape. She pressed her lips together and wet them with her tongue.

Startled, she snapped her gaze away. Why the heck was she wondering what it would be like to kiss him? She had really lost her marbles. A virgin, but not a saint? Bad girl, she scolded herself. Now as she looked at herself kneeling uninvited on a man’s bed while he slept, it seemed even dirtier. She needed to have her head examined.

Holding her breath, she placed her palms on the mattress and pushed away toward the edge of the bed. She was getting the heck out of here. Her toes breached the outer seam.

A low growl preceded large hands clamping on her shoulders and flipping her in the air. The ceiling and black silk sheets flashed in her field of view before her back found the mattress and her head flopped into the pillow. She yelped as Bakari’s hard male body pressed her firmly into the padding. In one hand he pinned her wrists above her head. Despite being severely underweight, his torso and pelvis heavily restrained her.

“Did you see something you did not like, Parvana?”

Excerpt:

Don’t screw this up, Michelle told herself. Get so much as a scratch, and they’ll never let you outside Institute walls again. Her backpack leaned on the wall, ready to go, if Dillon would ever show up. She checked the time and flopped back on her bed with a groan.

Heavy footsteps bounded up the stairs. Michelle sat up, her blue eyes narrowed. “About time, Dillon. You’re thirty minutes—”

Brian walked through the door instead, flashing a grin that rocked her world. “He’s late? Might as well get used to it. Norms are never on time.”

Brian hasn’t been here since . . . that night . . . before I met Dillon. He looks so different. Despite Institute regulations, he hadn’t cut his hair since his exile in the Warren. Loose blond locks brushed his broad shoulders. Between his scores and his mother’s rank, he got away with a lot.

Michelle tried to stop staring and say something coherent. “So, you came to say goodbye? I’ll only be gone a week.”

Brian smirked. “What, and waste these brand-new camping clothes?”

Michelle’s stomach did a flip. “Are you saying they’re sending you? With me…and Dillon? Isn’t that going to be…”

“Awkward?” Brian’s smirk grew into a huge grin. “Oh, yeah.”

Michelle felt like all the air had rushed out of the room. “How could they do that to us?”

“Apparently your mother isn’t comfortable sending you off alone with your Norm boyfriend.”

“Half Norm,” Michelle corrected, making a sour face at her disturbingly hot ex.

“I’m not judging you. It’s just kind of sudden, that’s all. And I thought…you know… you and me, we were just getting started.” Brian sat down on the bed, surprising Michelle with a kiss on the mouth that sent tingles through her lower belly.

“Mmm. Don’t do that.”

“Hey, relax.” Brian gently turned her chin toward him, cupping her cheek in his hand. His brown eyes held her gaze. “I’m not mad. Go have your fun. Come on back when it’s over.”

“That’s awfully Enhanced of you, Brian,” Michelle whispered. “And I mean that. Look, I…I’m sorry my mother dumped this job on you. This is going to be weird for us both.”

“Only if we let it.”

Brian’s fingers traced lightly over Michelle’s hair. Without really meaning to, she tilted her head into his hand and closed her eyes.

He doesn’t get it. The Enhanced swap partners all the time, but Norms bond for life. I can never break up with Dillon. It would kill him.

Brian leaned in close, letting his lips tickle her ear. “I know, you think you trapped yourself. But those backward rules don’t apply to us. I’d never try and own you like he does. It’s uncivilized.”
