Thief of Hope blurb:

Sydney, a street urchin and pickpocket in the town of Last Hope, has managed to evade the oppressive Guild for years, but there is no escaping fate when she’s sentenced to death for associating with the resistance.

After she’s rescued by a wizard, Sydney is forced to accept that magic—long outlawed throughout the Kingdom of Thanumor—still exists, and the Tuatha, a powerful faery folk, are much more than ancient myth and legend. When the wizard offers a chance to fight the Guild and bring Willem, bastard prince and champion of the Tuatha, to the throne, Sydney embraces the cause as a way to find her own redemption.

But Sydney’s fear of the Guild, distrust of authority, and surprising connection to the Tuatha threaten Willem’s success. Can she untangle the strange threads that entwine her life not only to the fate of the kingdom, but also to Willem himself?

Teaser Tuesday

Now that Thief of Hope is back out in the world once more, I can finally get back to finishing book 2 in the series. I’m thinking I will do a regular posting of some teasers to let you know what’s coming. Be warned, though, the book is still in progress and whatever I post here is by no means final!

Thief of Destiny teaser:

“You have no idea how dangerous they can be.” Tam’s voice returned to a whisper. “They’d control me if they could. I know who you really are, Sydney. I know what you are. We are alike, you and I.” He leaned across the table. “The shadows. You’ve seen them, haven’t you? They haunt your nights and your days.”

The room suddenly grew cold. A dozen questions flashed through her mind. “What do you mean, we’re alike? Have you seen the Shadow Folk?”

“All the time. If we don’t—” He stopped and stared at the marble in her hand, then stood abruptly. “I can hear them. They’re watching you, just like I warned you. It’s not safe for me to linger here. Remember what I said. Beware the faery folk. They will destroy you if you’re not careful.”

Finding the truth can sometimes be harder than exorcising a demon…

Jimmy Holiday, defrocked priest- turned- exorcist, is trying to make sense of his life. With his on-again-off-again witchy girlfriend moving in, Lucy- the spirit from his last exorcism hanging around, and a secret organization of exorcists hounding him, Jimmy is feeling the stress.

When a stranger calls in the middle of the night asking for help with a possession, Jimmy is puzzled. Especially when the dude on the phone says he got his number from Jimmy’s old mentor. Too bad his mentor has been dead for several years.

After a mysterious silver flask arrives at his doorstep, Jimmy is left with two options: either ignore the phone call and the flask, or listen to Lucy and travel to Arizona to solve the mystery before all hell breaks loose- literally.

Author Interview

Q: Where were you born? Are you the kind of person who likes to move around a lot, or do you prefer to live in one place?

A: I was born in Morgantown, WV. I did move to Baton Rouge, LA, for awhile in 2000, but I ended up moving back home. Guess you can’t get the mountains out of this girl. LOL

Q: What sparked your interest in writing? How long have you been writing?

A: I think it kind of happened organically. I do remember being in elementary school and there being a weekly prize for the person who wrote the best poem. I was really proud when my poem finally got picked. But, I think I dabbled in tiny stories and things prior to that. So, I’ve been writing most of my life.

Q: What provided the inspiration for Sorrow’s Edge?

A: My father is a huge cowboy buff, so when I was trying to think of an interesting setting for the second book in the Sorrow’s series, Tombstone immediately popped into my head. That, of course, left me open for Jimmy to have something to do with his ancestor.

Q: How would you describe your path toward publication?

A: Rocky. I thought I would write on book, get a literary agent, then get a contract with a big publisher. That, of course, is not how things worked out. Now, that is still my goal, but I’m fine writing for small presses too.

Q: Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

A: Make sure that you don’t get ahead of yourself. Beta readers are wonderful things. Use them. Polish your book to the point that you can’t do anything else with it. That’s when you start submitting places.

Q: Name a few authors who have inspired you and describe why.

A: Anne Rice- she started the modern movement of “likeable” vampires in the 1970’s.

Stephen King- Horror wouldn’t be the same without him.

Richard Matheson- Gave us I Am Legend which is IMO one of the best vampire books ever written.

Q: What are you currently writing?

A: A sci-fi vampire book, currently entitled, “Maw”. If you lumped the films, The Warriors, Lifeforce, and Event Horizon together, you will get Maw.

Q: Coffee, tea, or hard liquor? (or all three?)

A: Definitely all three. But, the hard liquor tends to be once in a blue moon sort of thing.

Q: What books are you currently reading or on your to-be-read list?

A: I have a Sci-fi book on my kindle by Sergei Lukanyenko that I need to read. I also plan on re-reading Prince Lestat soon.

Q: And now for the bonus fluff question: If you could be a character in your one of your favorite novels, which character would you be and why?

A: Oh, totally Lestat. I love Lestat. He is just so damn cool, ya know? I mean, why wouldn’t you want to be “The Brat Prince”?

Love your answers, Danielle! And I am also a huge Lestat fan!
