Fiction Proofreading

I offer proofreading services for fiction. I have previously edited science fiction and mystery and I am a fantasy author. I am open to most genres and age levels. Please note that proofreading is the final edit before publication, so your manuscript should have undergone previous rounds of editing before it comes to me.

Before accepting a project, I will provide a free 10-page sample edit. These pages should not be from the first two chapters, because those chapters are usually the ones that have been reviewed the most. This will give you an idea of my editing style to determine if it meets your needs, and it will also give me an idea of the kinds of edits needed.

I generally follow the Chicago Manual of Style, but consistency is most important, and you as the author have the final say in any style considerations. As an editor, it is my job to follow your lead. I will note any spelling or grammar errors, inconsistencies in the manuscript, or other egregious errors. At the proofreading stage, I will not be copyediting your manuscript, but I will note if any writing seems unclear to me as a reader.

All editing is done in MS Word using Track Changes. I do not use any AI in my editing. I do use MS Word’s spellcheck feature, with careful review of each item flagged.

Rates: $0.012/word

A 50% deposit and signed contract are required before I begin your project, with the remaining 50% due upon completion. I accept PayPal and Venmo.

Please contact me for more details or to request a sample edit. I look forward to working with you to make sure your manuscript is polished, as error free as possible, and ready for publication.

Cindy Young-Turner edited my novel, To Reclaim A Life. She was very responsive, timely, and most of all—delivered superlative work. She identified the mistakes I swear I did not make during my writing. I couldn’t have sent this to the printer without her. I wholeheartedly recommend her for your job, and know you will be pleased with her work. When my next book is ready, I plan to go back to her.

– Nelson Erlick, author of To Reclaim A Life

Cindy Young-Turner has provided me with editorial feedback for many years and through several literary projects. She is reliable, knowledgable, and professional. I highly recommend her for fiction editing.
